Let us embark on a literary journey with Daniel on Jump Ship to Freedom. On our journey, we will be doing a lot of exciting things that will help you earn points. Our goal is to get a score of 100 points. I know you can do it!

Remember the following things:
·    You have to get 40 points in Layer C to get to Layer B
·    You have to get 30 points in Layer B to get to Layer A
·    You have to get 30 points in Layer A
·    Fill in the Score Sheet

Layer C: Basic Knowledge
- You have to earn 40 points in Layer C

Required:
__________ 1. Read the book; log it in your Reading Log (10 pts.)
__________ 2. Reading Comprehension Questions (10 pts)

You’re Choice:
__________ 3. Make a Vocabulary Crossword Puzzle (10 pts.)
__________ 4. Draw a ship/ Construct a ship- label the parts using the Ship Vocabulary (10 pts.)
__________ 5. Make a time line of Daniel’s life (10 pts.)
__________ 6. Make a booklet. Write a summary for every 3 chapters, and make a drawing to represent the chapters. (20 pts.)
__________ 7. Make a storyboard for Jump Ship to Freedom. It has to have at least 8 cells, with illustration and a summary. (10 pts.)
__________ 8.  Write a report about the authors, James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier (10 pts.)

Layer B: Application
    - You have to earn 30 points in Layer B

Required:
__________ 1. Make a resume for Daniel; write his qualities and what makes him a very good person. (10 pts.)

OR

__________ 2. Write an expository paragraph about how Daniel got the soldier’s notes back (10 pts.)

Your Choice:
__________ 3. Advice Column- Daniel needs advice if he should continue to Philadelphia and deliver the message, or if he should refuse to carry out a friend’s final wishes. (10 pts.)
__________ 4. Write a diary from Daniel’s point of view. Include dates and locations. Must have at least 5 journal entries. (10 pts.)
__________ 5. Role-play your favorite scene in the story. Dress-up, and use correct accent. (10 pts.)
__________ 6. Make a wanted ad poster of Daniel. (10 pts.)
__________ 7. Write a song or poem about Daniel’s Life. (10 pts.)
__________ 8. Make a comic strip of an event in the story (10 pts.)
__________ 9. Write an obituary for Birdsey (10 pts.)

Layer A: Critical Thinking and Analysis
    - You have to earn 30 points in Layer A

Required:
_________ 1. Character Analysis- Analyze the characters in the story (Daniel, Captain Ivers, Birdsey, Carrie, Big Tom and Mr. Fatherscreft)        (10 pts.)

Your Choice:
_________ 2.  Make a book review. Be sure to include what the book is about, what you liked about the book, and the message of the author. (10 pts.)
_________ 3. Write about how it will be like to live as a slave. Include feelings of hardships, and ways to cope. (10 pts.)
_________ 4. Add a new character in the story. How would Daniel interact with this character? Would he like the character? Write in detail an incident including Daniel and the new character. (10 pts.)
_________ 5. Interview with Daniel. Write 5 questions that you would like to ask Daniel, and write Daniel’s possible responses. (10 pts.)
_________ 6. Write a Historical Fiction Story. It should not be more than a 10-year span, and must include 5 events. (20 pts.)
_________ 7. Create a game using the story as material (10 pts.)
_________ 8. Pretend that you are a television newscaster telling the viewers about the stir at the Constitutional Convention caused by the runaway slave, Daniel Arabus. (10 pts.)
