With your cooperative group, create a banner representing your city-state.  Everyone in the group must contribute something to the banner.  Your banner should include at least 6 facts about your city-state on it.  You must complete the banner in two days and present it to the rest of the class.

  1. Make a “Fortune Teller” using 8 words from the AG Spelling List on SSNB page AG5.  Include a picture for each word in color and definitions from the Social Studies textbook.  To receive your points, come in at lunch and Mrs. Cassioppi will select 5 words at random and ask you their meaning.

Make your own crossword puzzle for the 20 AG Spelling List on SSNB page AG5.  Use definitions from the Social Studies textbook in your clues for your crossword puzzle.  Have another Team 6C student or an adult solve the puzzle.  They will need to sign their name to it.  Turn in to Mr. Snickers’ basket.

In your cooperative group, you will have opportunities to “Think about Thinking.”  Your group will be given questions that have no answers in the book.  You and your group will come up with reasonable answers and share them with the rest of the class.  You will receive points for your focused and active participation in the development of the answers.

  1. Check out an Aesop’s Fables book from Mrs. Cassioppi.  Select 4 fables to illustrate and write a complete sentence for each fable that explains the moral (or lesson) to be learned from story.

  1. In class, participate in a simulation game about the development of democracy.  In order to earn the maximum number of points, you will also need to show what you learned in this simulation game.

Create a Venn diagram comparing/contrasting Athens and Sparta.  Include at least 6 facts about Athens, 6 facts about Sparta, and 3 things they had in common.  A good source for information would be your Social Studies textbook and any books at the back of the classroom.  Of course, you could check with the library or the Internet!

Using 1 of the Greek recipes provided by Mrs. Cassioppi, prepare a recipe for yourself and at least 2 others.  You must do most of the preparation and clean up after the cooking activity.  An adult/guardian must sign the sheet in ink with a positive comment validating that you prepared the food, had at least 2 others taste it, and also cleaned up.  This cooking activity must be completed by Friday, April 29, 2005.  No exceptions, please.

  1. Visit http://www.mrdowling.com/710greece.html. When you get to Mr. Dowling’s Electronic Passport website, go to Greek Philosophy, Socrates, Plato, and Homer.  Write a page report explaining what you learned in each of these 4 categories.

  1. Aesop was a slave who lived long ago in Ancient Greece.  He became known for his fables or stories that used animal characters in them and taught a moral or lesson.  Write your own fable using 2 animals and the story must teach a lesson.

  1. Greek gods are sometimes used in advertising.  Create an advertisement for a modern product using a Greek god or other mythical creature (you will select from a list of suggestions).

  1. Research Alexander the Great and complete a “Research and Critical Thinking” Assignment Sheet.  Why was Alexander so successful at spreading his empire?  Many of his soldiers and generals did not agree with his methods.  Why do you think they disagreed with him?  Why did his empire fall apart after he died?  Form your own opinions and decide how you want to present you information to your class.

Ancient Greece was the home of several of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.  Throughout history people have made lists of the greatest wonders of their time.  What would you pick as the seven natural wonders of today’s world?  Write a statement explaining each of your choices.  Share with your class aloud.
